ESPN National Golf Challenge Champs Crowned
Friday, October 30, 2009
In search of America's
best twosome, ESPN hosted their national golf tournament at the Paiute Golf
Courses in Las Vegas.
Weather was gorgeous and golfers from across the country brought their
best. The event was a 2-person best ball (low ball) event that played host to a
Senior, Net, and Gross Division. There was also a individual stroke play
championship for the golf professions. At the end of the 2-day event there were
no more questions of who the best were. For the Pro Division, Tyler Sweet
(69-68=139) was crowned champion after a sudden death playoff over James Ousley
who fired an amazing 63 the final day.
In
the Gross Division, Gary Deblaquiere and Jon Peterson (65-64=129) broke out of
a first day 4 way tie and fired an 8-under final day to cruise to an easy
victory. Last years champions, Spencer Page and Tobin Scott tried to make
a 2nd day come back by firing a 9-under 63 but came up a shot short.
GolfTournamentsIn.com's first Featured Champion, Bruce Rawlings and his partner
Blake Baumann, finished 13th with Bruce telling us that they just could not
figure out how to get the ball into the hole. He said, "the
mountains fooled us, and we had problems both days making putts. That's
part of the game and congratulations are in order for the champions."
The
Net Division winners were Jerry Faulk and Jerry Czarnecki who had net scores of
65-65=130. They finished in a 3-way tie for first but displayed magic and
won on the sudden death playoff over the teams of Jeff Orzel & Kevin Moreno
and Peter Hartmann & Kevin Friel. The Senior Division was not as
close as John Mallonee and John Cartee strolled to a five shot victory by
firing 65-65=130.
All
players had a great time and ESPN, Callaway Golf, the facilities of Pauite Golf
Courses, and Treasure Island were perfect
host. Be sure to look for local qualifying dates for next year's 2010
ESPN National Golf Challenge.
Golf is approved for 2016 & 2020 Olympics
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Golf was last played in the Olympics in 1904
with only a few countries competing. PGA Tour commissioner predicts that
in 2016 about 30 countries will be represented in a 72-hole stroke play
tournament. Sixty men and sixty women will be eligible for this event.
With
this addition of golf to the Olympic games its predicted that golf should
experience a global boom. The real impact will be in the countries of China and India which will now spend dramatic
amounts of dollars to develop golfers and on the creation of practice
facilities to include golf courses.
As
of now there is no set location picked for hosting the event which has the golf
world scrambling. Debates on building a new world championship golf
course or renovating an already existing facility has begun. Tentative
dates have been set for the 2016 Games being August 5-21 which will make for a
long summer for golf. Remember there are still FedEx Cup playoffs, PGA
Championship, Ryder Cup, and World Golf Championships.
The
only real question is will Tiger Woods eye the Gold Medal as he does the Majors
or is it just another event. Either way it should make for an interesting
next 6 years as we watch companies battle for marketing, players battle for
positioning, and the world battle for creating their own version of Tiger Woods.

GolfTournamentsIn.com Launches Searchable Golf Event Database
Saturday, July 04, 2009
GolfTournamentsIn.com LLC (GTI) launched GolfTournamentsIn.com, a website designed to be the ultimate solution for golfers to find golf tournaments and other golf related events to play in.
The site was created to revolutionize the way the golf industry promotes events. After years of traditional advertising methods such as flyers, newspaper ads, word of mouth, and radio, GolfTournamentsIn.com is coming with a fresh breakthrough concept that is bringing golf event promotion into the internet age.
“Right now golfers are having a hard time finding tournaments to play in outside their local course,” said Blake Baumann, founder and President of GolfTournamentsIn.com LLC. “Our primary goal with GolfTournamentsIn.com is fulfilling a need for a segment in the golf industry that has been missing. You can search and book tee times online, buy and sale golf equipment, but no where can you find a resource to find golf tournaments for the average person to play in.”
Blake Baumann went on to add, “the website was designed to not only help golfers out but also help golf courses increase rounds of golf, tournament play, and revenues. The industry is hurting and according to the National Golf Foundation over 100 golf courses closed last year and another 60 more thus far this year, so golf courses have to reach out and attract play from outside their local market if they want to keep doors open. This is a very cost effective solution to do that and our unique conversion process will insure that courses get a major return on investment.”
Visitors to GolfTournamentsIn.com can take advantage of the easy to use search tools that will allow them to search events by location using their zip code and how far they want to travel, type and format of event they want to play in, as well as find out what types of prizes are involved such as cash, merchandise, or gift certificates. Another option for visitors is to become a member of the site for FREE and be updated on new events that meet their pre-selected criteria as well as qualify for GTI member benefits in the form of prizes such as cash, merchandise, discounted rates, and free rounds of golf.
